I. Drafting

A. Draft Eligibility

All players listed on an NHL team roster and major free agents are eligible to be drafted at one of their designated positions.

B. Draft Order

A lottery will be held before the draft to determine picking order. First round is in ascending order, then second round in descending order. All other rounds alternate in the same fashion.

C. Player Positions

All teams must draft the following positions (in any order they please)
  • 3 Left Wings
  • 3 Centers
  • 3 Right Wings
  • 6 Defensemen
  • 3 Goalies
  • 2 NHL Teams
  • 3 Extra skaters

D. Position Eligibility

A player is deemed eligible at a certain position by written documentation from a current publication (or major web site). Owners are responsible for providing this information to the Commissioner.

II. Roster Moves

A. Post-draft

  1. Players that have been cut from their NHL teams before the start of the season may be replaced for free.
  2. Players injured (see next section for definition), sent to the minors, or otherwise ineligible may be replaced for the specified transaction fee.

B. Injured players

  1. If an owner has an injured player, he may pick up replacement player. A must be placed on Injured Reserve to be eligible for replacement. When the injured player returns, it is assumed that the replacement player is cut from the owner's team unless the owner states otherwise.
  2. Players cut or sent to the minors are treated in the same manner as injured players.
  3. Players suspended are not considered injured unless the suspension is for an off-ice infraction or for the rest of the season.

C. Trades

  1. Any number of players may be traded, but each owner must have all required positions filled at the end of the trade.
  2. An injured player may be traded before his owner picks a replacement player, but not afterward.
  3. Each trade costs the specificied transaction amount per team, regardless of number of players swapped.

D. Waiver

Each owner is allowed to waive (and subsequently replace) one player at any time during the season.

E. Deadlines

  1. All trades and transactions must be made before Monday at 7:30 Eastern Time to go into effect during that next week.
  2. Transactions for a given week are based on the Major League rosters at 12:00 Midnight ET on Sunday. The reserved player must be on injured reserve or otherwise inactive (e.g. in the minors) at that time. If not, the transaction is automatically voided and the replacement player is free to be picked up by another owner.
  3. Any NHL transactions (i.e., players placed on injured reserve or sent to the minors) must happen before Monday to be acted upon in the current week.
  4. Trading deadline is the first stats after March 1st. Transaction money is due at this time.

III. Scoring

A. Ranking

Year-end totals for each of 8 categories are ranked from 1 (highest) to X (lowest) where X is the number of owners. Ties use the average (e.g. three-way tie for fourth, each team gets (4+5+6)/3 = 5 points). Lowest total from the sum of all eight categories wins.

B. Categories

The eight categories are:
  1. Goals Scored
  2. Assists
  3. Plus/Minus Ratio
  4. Penalty Minutes For
  5. Power Play Goals
  6. NHL Team Points
  7. Goals Against Average
  8. Save Percentage

C. Crossover Statistics

All players count toward all categories (e.g. goalies' assists and penalty minutes count).

D. Goalie Minutes

Each owner's goalies must log the equivalent of 120 games, or 7200 minutes. Any teams which log less than 120 games will automatically be placed last at each of the goalie categories.

IV. Money

A. Entry Fee

The entry fee is $20 plus $5 to cover statistics costs. Fee must be paid to treasurer by draft day.

B. Roster Moves

There is a $2 fee for each trade (per team) and/or roster move, with $0.50 going to the commissioner as a transactions charge. The waiver transaction fee is $5.

C. Purses

Expressed as a percentage of entry and transaction fees minus commissioner expenses.

If less than 12 owners:

  • 1st place: 60%
  • 2nd place: 30%
  • 3rd place: 10%

If 12 or more owners:

  • 1st place: 50%
  • 2nd place: 30%
  • 3rd place: 15%
  • 4th place: 5%

V. Disclaimer

The commissioner has the right to void any ridiculously one-sided trade or rule on any situation not covered above. Any judgement made by the commissioner may be overturned by a majority vote of the owners. The commissioner is responsible for at least attempting to form a consensus of opinion before any rulings.

These rules are subject to change up to draft day with a majority vote of the owners. All absentee owners are responsible for obtaining proxies for any votes taken on draft day.

These rules were last updated on August 6, 2000
